Shozanio Horton who was recently married to Michael Fleneury, is the founder and driving force behind Shozanio’s Place. Mrs. Blair-Fleneury is the oldest of three children and was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. As a child, she was abused both physically and mentally. From the age of three, she was beaten daily with anything her parents could get their hands on including belts, extension cords, and brooms. In her words, “What her parents beat her with did not matter as long as the punishment caused as much pain as possible”. She had to grow up fast as she had to care for her siblings and finally, at age 15, she began to fight back. Mrs. Blair-Fleneury never knew what it meant to be a child or to be loved and by 26, she was addicted to drugs and alcohol. Her addictions finally resulted in her incarceration.

Mrs. Blair-Fleneury knows the feeling of abandonment as a child, as a wife, as a prisoner, and later as a parolee. She knows the feeling of rejection, feeling unwanted, shamefulness, and constantly being told she is wrong and labeled evil. In her words: “I am a survivor of sexual violence, childhood trauma, domestic violence, gang violence, drug and alcohol addiction, severe trauma, generalized depression and anxiety, coupled with PTSD, and the prison system.” Mrs. Blair-Fleneury knows addiction is a lifelong disease and what the battle to recover is like. And finally, Mrs. Blair-Fleneury knows the feeling of hopelessness. As her sentence was coming to an end, she wrote to 26 reentry programs that offered help to people getting out of jail. None of her letters were answered. Not one!!!!! Shozanio Blair-Fleneury life experiences have fueled her passion and crystalized her mission to help women who have experienced what she has.
